The Golden city of the East is staring a severe water crisis as the water level of the Gomti river had dropped by 2.5 below because of the extreme weather conditions. The water supply in the city is believed to be slow as there is reduced water in the Sharda river and the canal is not able to draw water. According to the experts, when the level of the water goes below normal then the pumping station is not able to bring out water from the river.

Because of which only 2 out of the 4 big motors are useful and against the request of 300 MLD , only half of the water is being supplied. According to the experts, if the situation remains for the coming week, then there will be a water crisis situation in the 16 localities including Aminabad, Aishbad, Rakabganj, Lalbagh and Latouche Road. The Senior officer of the Irrigation Department said that they were already supplying water to the Gomti River. Meanwhile the present flow is only around 6000 to 7000 cusecs which is much less than the required 11,500 cusecs.

The Irrigation officer also talks about the likely reasons for the low water level in the sharda river. The first reason is the mild temperature in the May Month which halted the snow from melting and the second reason is there is less snow in the Uttarakhand this year leading to the decline in the water levels.
