Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) founder and national vice-president Mahendra Rajbhar on Monday resigned from the party along with over two dozen other members. Mahendra Rajbhar claimed that SBSP President Om Prakash Rajbhar has deviated from the party’s mission of serving the poor and downtrodden and now only wants to collect money.
Further, he suggested that the party president may give shelter at his residence to Mau MLA Abbas Ansari, who has been declared a fugitive by a court in the arms license case.
According to SBSP national general secretary Arun Rajbhar, those who have resigned seem to be influenced by the Samajwadi Party (SP). He said the party would try to reach him.
In July, the SBSP ended its alliance with the SP. In the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections earlier this year, both the parties had contested together. Mahendra Rajbhar told the media, “Om Prakash Rajbhar is only engaged in collecting money. We founded the party 20 years ago in 2002 with the mission of working for the poor, downtrodden. But now he is using the party for money.”
Mahendra Rajbhar said that as a result more than two dozen party leaders including state general secretary Arjun Chauhan and state vice-president Awadhesh Rajbhar have resigned along with him. Mahendra Rajbhar further alleged that Abbas Ansari, who is wanted in a criminal case, may be staying at Om Prakash Rajbhar’s house.
In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Mahendra Rajbhar contested as a BJP-SBSP alliance candidate from Mau against Abbas Ansari’s father, Mafia-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari. In the end Mahendra Rajbhar lost by 6,000 votes. At an election rally in Mau, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed Mahendra Rajbhar as ‘Katappa’, a character from the film ‘Baahubali’, who could have ended ‘Baahubali’ (Mukhtar Ansari).
