Manipur Election: Two people died due to election violence

Voting for the second phase of Manipur election has started. A total of 92 candidates are present in the electoral fray on 22 seats today. A total of 1247 polling stations have been set up and elaborate security arrangements have been made by the Election Commission. In this second phase of elections, the fate of many big leaders is going to be imprisoned in EVMs. Meanwhile, two people died due to election violence in Manipur.

Two people died in separate incidents of polling-related violence during the last phase of polling in Manipur. The first incident took place in Thoubal district and the second in Senapati district. According to police, unidentified miscreants hurled a country-made bomb at the residence of expelled BJP leader C Bijoy in Lamphel area of ​​Imphal West district of Manipur. The incident happened on Friday night, hours before the start of the second phase of the assembly elections.

There were sporadic incidents of violence on Monday in the first phase of polling for 38 assembly seats in Manipur. At least one person was injured in a clash between workers of two rival political parties in Churachandpur district, police officials said. An electronic voting machine was damaged by some people in Singhat, which was later replaced.

Congress workers allegedly damaged a BJP polling booth in Kakwa area of ​​Langthbal constituency of Imphal West district, while a National People’s Party candidate’s vehicle was damaged by members of a rival group in Keirao seat, however.

Officials said that there has been an incident of firing by some miscreants at Funal Maring polling station.
