Maruti Suzuki: The Malappuram District Consumer Commission has made a ground-breaking ruling, requiring Maruti Suzuki India Limited to pay back a customer’s automobile loan in full if the vehicle’s airbag fails to deploy after an accident. The decision has raised awareness of safety issues and manufacturer responsibility in India’s automobile sector.
Maruti Suzuki to refund full car price due to Airbag failure
Mohamed Musliar, a resident of Kerala’s Malappuram district and a native of Indianoor, had a major accident on June 30, 2021, which is when the incident in issue happened. Musliar suffered significant injuries as a result of the car’s airbag system malfunctioning, which was shocking. A manufacturing issue was found to be the cause of the airbag’s failure to deploy after an inquiry by the Motor Vehicle Inspector.
According to the Malappuram District Consumer Commission’s ruling, Maruti Suzuki must reimburse the full Rs 4,35,854 purchase price of the car as well as an extra Rs 20,000 for legal fees. The significance of automakers upholding strict safety regulations and accepting accountability for the integrity of their products is highlighted by this ruling. In addition, if the refund is not processed within a month, the commission will charge a penalty of nine per cent interest.
Maruti Suzuki is known to recall its cars

Remarkably, the business recalled 87,599 S-Presso and Eeco models in July 2023 because of a steering tie rod fault that may have compromised the vehicle’s steerability.
