Maruti Suzuki: The GST authorities have given a show cause notice to prominent automaker Maruti Suzuki, requesting that it pay Rs 139.3 crore in tax, plus interest and penalties. In a regulatory filing, the business stated that the notice relates to the issue of tax liability based on reverse charges on certain services for the period of July 2017 to August 2022. The business declared that it would reply to the show-cause notice.
Maruti Suzuki’s Reply
Maruti Suzuki asserted that it had been granted a favourable ruling by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which dismissed the Central Excise Department’s appeal of the earlier case involving the payment of Rs. 57.2 crore for the period from June 2006 to March 2011. The company also stated in the filing that the Central Excise Department had appealed the earlier tribunal order from August 2016—which had been upheld and granted the company input service credit for a selection of services—before the High Court.
In a regulatory filing, the company said: “Show cause notice has been issued by the GST Authority for the period of July 2017 to August 2022, proposing to demand interest and impose penalty, besides appropriating tax already paid amounting to Rs 139.3 crore in matter of tax liability under the reverse charge basis on certain services.”
