Maruti Suzuki Jimny: The booth of India’s largest automobile manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, was one of the Auto Expo 2023’s highlights. Maruti launched and introduced a number of new products at the expo, which wowed the crowd. The company showed off the Jimny five-door lifestyle 4X4 SUV on the second day of the show. The SUV became an instant hit, and it has reportedly already received 3000 reservations. The Jimny currently has a three-month waiting list, and the vehicle managed to reach this number in just two days.
Jimny is a global cult brand
Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director – of Sales and Marketing, MSIL, said about the bookings of the all-new Jimny, “Since Jimny is a global cult brand, there was already a group of buyers who were eager to buy it. We had 2,500 confirmed bookings by this morning (January 14), and we expect to have 3,000 confirmed bookings by the end of the day.”

The starting price will depend on a number of things
So far, the company hasn’t said anything about how much the Jimny will cost. When asked about this, the Executive Director of Sales and Marketing at Maruti said, “The pricing and monthly output are very hard to figure out at this point.” The starting price will depend on a number of things, such as the price range of the competitor (Mahindra Thar) as well as the cost of materials and the total cost of production at that time.
The company says that the Jimny and the Fronx are being released because the Indo-Japanese automaker wants to get a bigger share of the SUV market in the country. The leader in the Indian auto industry thinks that by the end of this year, the two new models will have made a big difference in the number of SUVs sold from its current line-up, which is 13.9 percent.
Srivastava said the same thing, “Entry-level SUVs, which sold 665,000 units last year, made up 21.7% of the passenger vehicle market and are the biggest segment in the industry. When an industry grows, a “sub-segment” appears, and right now there are two sub-segments that the industry isn’t serving. The first group is young, urban, tech-savvy people who want the Fronx. The second group is lifestyle SUV off-roading, which is becoming more popular. When Jimny comes out, this market segment will grow a lot. Because of this, our share of the SUV market will also grow.”
The company has orders for 91,000 units of its MPV Ertiga
But it should be noted that the company already has open orders for about 366,000 units. This number could also go up once these two new cars are on the market and are made. As of right now, the company has orders for 91,000 units of its MPV Ertiga, 71,000 units of its subcompact SUV Brezza, and 57,000 units of its midsize SUV Grand Vitara.
