Mathura temple case: The court has set July 11 as the next hearing date.

Mathura court on Thursday fixed July 11 as the next date of hearing in a Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah Mosque dispute case. The court will hear the parties’ arguments regarding the case’s viability as well as a request for a survey of the mosque to look for evidence of a temple.

Petitioners in almost a dozen cases filed in Mathura court on Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi issue claimed that the Shahi Eidgah mosque was constructed on a part of a 13.37-acre land which belongs to the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Trust. They have demanded that the mosque land be returned to the trust.

The Krishna temple complex in Mathura includes a mosque next to it, and the Hindu side of the case has demanded that it be taken down and its 13.37 acres of property transferred. According to Order 7 Rule 11 of the Civil Procedure Code, the management committee of the mosque has contested the maintainability of these lawsuits.

On Thursday, the Hindu petitioner contesting the maintainability of the lawsuits filed on behalf of the deity Thakur Keshav Dev Ji Maharaj presented objections to an application made by the mosque management.

The management committee of Shahi Eidgah mosque, besides other opposite parties, objected to these petitions, alleging that they have been filed after a prolonged delay as the compromise was done in 1968, while the judgement and decree in case number 43 of 1967 were passed in 1974. Hence, the petition, as such, was time barred, they claimed.

According to Rajendra Maheshwari, the petitioner and attorney for Thakur Keshav Dev Ji Maharaj, “We submitted an objection to the motion seeking dismissal of the matter for maintainability of case” today.

Tanveer Ahmed, who spoke on behalf of the mosque management, stated, “We prayed for some time to go through the concerns and, if needed, would file a reply to these objections on July 11.”
