Money Laundering Case: An appeal by the Enforcement Directorate against the Bombay High Court’s decision to grant bail to NCP politician and former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh in a PMLA case was dismissed by the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
However, a bench comprising Justices DY Chandrachud and Hima Kohli made it clear that the High Court’s observations are limited to the issue of bail and will not affect the outcome of the trial.
The panel decided not to interfere with the High Court’s order after deliberating on the plea for more than 1.5 hours.

Deshmukh has been in detention since November 2, 2021, when he was taken into custody in connection with a money laundering investigation involving the suspected receipt of payments from Mumbai bar and hotel owners.
Although the High Court granted bail to Deshmukh on October 4, the ED urged the court to postpone the ruling until October 12. The former minister, in all likelihood, “may not be ultimately convicted” in the money laundering case being looked at by ED, a single bench of Justice NJ Jemadar stated while granting bail. The statements of Sachin Waze and Parambir Singh were deemed inconsistent by the High Court as well.
