How to protect yourself and your car during a landslide? Do read if you live in the mountains or planning a trip

landslide: When substantial volumes of wet material, such as boulders, earth, and trees, slide down a hill, it is called a landslide. They could be brought on by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, storms, fires, or human activities. Landslides are particularly deadly because they occur unexpectedly, move rapidly, and cover large areas. Although it might be challenging to foresee landslides, you can be ready for one by adhering to the right safety procedures, being aware of the warning signals, and creating an emergency plan.

How to protect yourself and your car during a landslide?

1. Keep listening to local news for updates

Use your car’s radio to listen to local news to be updated about the weather. Pay attention to warnings about heavy rains because they can cause landslides.

2. Be Alert while driving

Take care when driving if you have to exit a dangerous place. Keep an eye out for bridges that have been washed out, fallen debris, and flooded roadways. AVOID crossing flooded streams; instead, go around and try to find another way.

3. Be alert and avoid sleeping during the warning period

You should always be ready to act quickly since landslides can happen very rapidly. Many fatalities caused by landslides happen when people are asleep.

4. Leave ASAP if necessary

It’s possible that your local law enforcement won’t be informed of a landslide until it’s too late in some cases, even though they may occasionally issue an evacuation order. When it is safe to depart and you believe a landslide is about to occur, leave right away.
