Just a day after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expanded his new Cabinet on Tuesday by inducting 31 new ministers, including a huge contingent of 16 from key ally RJD, controversy erupted over the induction of RJD MLA Kartikeya Singh as the Law Minister of the state.
Notably, Kartikeya Singh was named as an accused in a kidnapping case before he took oath as the new minister in the Nitish Kumar-led government in Bihar
According to reports, the RJD lawmaker was to surrender in Danapur court on August 16 in a kidnapping case. However, he decided to take oath as the new minister on the same day in the Nitish Kumar-led Mahagathbandhan government in Bihar.

Mr Singh, a member of the Bihar Legislative Council, is accused, along with 17 others, in a 2014 kidnapping case. He is charged with planning the kidnapping of a builder in order to murder him. He claims he was falsely charged and that there is no warrant against him. A Patna High Court order had noted that the victim in the case had not named Mr Singh in his statement before a magistrate.
On August 12, a court ordered that “no coercive action” could be taken against him till September 1.
