It was a record breaking day in Pakistan as England played ‘Bazball’ in Test cricket. Batting first the English team posted a daunting total of 506/4 on Day 1 of the first Test match. There were four centurions in England’s line up with three having strike rates of over 100 while the one had 97.27.
Zak Crwaley (122), Ben Duckett (107), Ollie Pope (108) and Harry Brook (101) were the centurions.
The visitors smashed 174 in the morning session, picked up 158 post lunch despite losing three wickets in quick succession, and scored 174 again in the curtailed final session, where only 21 overs were possible as fading light forced early stumps.
5-6/4 is the highest total made in Test cricket on Day 1. Earlier, Australia held the record by scoring 496/6 vs South Africa in Adelaide in 2012.
This was also the first time that four batters started from zero and ended scoring hundreds.
Another record breaking part was six fours in an over by Harry Brook where he knocked every ball of Saud Shakeel’s over to the boundary fence.
Brief scores: England 506/4 in 75 overs (Zak Crawley 122, Ollie Pope 108, Ben Duckett 107, Harry Brook 101 not out; Zahid Mahmood 2-160) vs Pakistan.
