During the 77th edition of monthly radio programme, ‘Mann Ki Baat’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said that the Covid-19 crisis is the worst pandemic that the world has seen in the last 100 years.
“Our frontline workers have played a remarkable role in fighting Covid-19. During normal times, India used to produce 900 metric tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen in a day. Now it has increased more than 10 times, about 9,500 metric tonnes is being produced every day,” he added.
Till a few weeks ago, there was a flood of SOSes from hospitals left with only a few hours’ of medical oxygen. Social media had catalogued individual cases of oxygen demand from citizens across the country.
PM Modi urged to people not to fall prey to rumours about vaccination and urged every person to get inoculated against the disease.
On the devastation caused by cyclones:
“Just recently, in the past ten days, the country faced two major cyclones – Cyclone Tauktae on the west coast and Cyclone Yaas on the east coast. Both these cyclones affected a number of states,” PM Modi said.
“The country and her people fought them with all their strength, ensuring minimum loss of life. We experience now that compared to earlier times, we are being able to save the lives of maximum people.”
He added, “Under these trying and extraordinary calamitous circumstances, people of all these cyclone affected states have displayed courage they’ve faced this moment of crisis with immense patience and discipline.”
Jal Jeevan Mission:
The PM spoke about Jal Jeevan Mission. He also mentioned Ayushman Yojana that helped the poor who could not afford treatment earlier.
“In the last 7 years, digital transactions have also gone up. From north-east to Jammu and Kashmir, there is a new resolve of peace. All this has been possible because we worked as team India. Where there are successes there are challenges too. Coronavirus is a crisis that has engulfed the world. India is going ahead with a sense of service and resolve. Mask, distancing and vaccine are our weapons to fight,” he added.
