587th meeting of RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das and Nirmala Sitharaman

The 587th meeting of the Central Board of Directors was held under the chairmanship of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das. This meeting was held for the first time through video conference. During this, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed the directors of the Central Board.

In her address, the Finance Minister explained the Union Budget 2021-22 and the priorities of the Government. While praising the Finance Minister on the budget, the board members also gave suggestions to the government.

Finance Minister was accompanied by Union Minister Anurag Thakur, Finance Secretary Ajay Bhushan Pandey and Deepam Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey. At the meeting, the board reviewed the current economic situation, global and domestic challenges and various areas of operation of the Reserve Bank. This includes ways to strengthen the grievance redressal mechanism in banks.

The meeting held on Tuesday was chaired by RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das. Nominee Directors’ Financial Services Secretary Debashish Panda and Economic Affairs Secretary Tarun Bajaj also attended the meeting. Apart from Sitharaman, Minister of State for Finance Anurag Singh Thakur, Finance Secretary Ajay Bhushan Pandey and Secretary of the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management Tuhin Kant Pandey were also present.

Board applauds Finance Minister –

Appreciating the Finance Minister on the budget, the board members made several suggestions for the government’s consideration. “The Central Board of Directors also reviewed the current economic situation in its first meeting after the presentation of the budget for 2021-22. “The board in its meeting reviewed the current economic situation, global and domestic challenges and various areas of operation of the Reserve Bank, including ways to strengthen the grievance redressal mechanism in banks,” the statement said.
