After winning the MCD elections, there have been celebrations at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) headquarters in Delhi. Along with the MCD election results, the party’s elevation as a “National Party” caused a rush of euphoria among its rank and file.
AAP Ecstatic on getting ‘National Party’ status
Delhi Chief Minister and AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal in a Video Message stated “ Gujarat’s people have given us the national status that only a few parties have…. It’s an amazing achievement for a small young party.”
The party currently heads state governments in Delhi and Punjab, and it also qualified to become a state party in Goa after winning two seats and 6.77% of the vote in the state’s assembly elections. It was able to win a 10% vote share in the recently held elections in Gujarat.

There are 7 National Parties in India, BJP and Congress being the largest
The National Status for the party has come in the backdrop of municipal polls in Delhi that marked the first time AAP unseated the BJP in a direct contest at any level.
An escatic Delhi Chief Minister Manish Sisodia Tweeted “ For the first time , education and health issues are making a mark in national politics.
Even though AAP claimed to be forming the Gujarat government, the party looks to have succeeded in its realistic goals.
Arvind Kejriwal had stated that it would be happy if it got 15-20 per cent vote share in Gujarat.
In Himachal Pradesh, the party has got 1 percent of the vote share. After initial excitement of AAP’s entry in Himachal Pradesh, following its victory in neighboring Punjab, it chose to go back to its drawing board to reevaluate its strategy.
It decided to give up on Himachal Pradesh and concentrate instead on the MCD Polls and the Gujarat Election when reports of a staraight fight between the BJP and the Congress surfaced.
At present, there are seven National Parties in India, with BJP and the Congress being the largest.
