The ruling party won the no-confidence motion on Tuesday and Nitika Bhalla of the Congress was removed from the post of mayor. During the house meeting of Municipal Corporation (MC), 48 out of 50 corporators attended the meeting. Last week, the councilors presented another no-confidence motion against Senior Deputy Mayor Parveen Kumar Sharma, Deputy Mayor Ashok Dhamija and the Finance and Contracts Committee (F&CC).
In the year 2021, elections were held for 50 wards of Moga Municipal Corporation. The Congress got 20 seats, while the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) got 15 seats. Another 10 seats were won by independents, while four by AAP and 1 by BJP. Ten independents supported the then ruling Congress and Bhalla was elected the first woman mayor of Moga. Since AAP won the assembly elections, 32 corporators from Congress, SAD and BJP have joined Aam Aadmi Party, taking the party’s official strength to 36.
