During the discussion on the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday (August 9), Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused the opposition of running away from the discussion on Manipur violence. He said, “I am ready for discussion on Manipur Violence. They don’t want discussion. They just want to protest. If he was not satisfied with my discussion, the PM would have also considered giving a statement.”
Amit Shah said, “Do you think that you will silence us by creating ruckus. The people of the country have support. I will talk in detail about the violent incident that took place in ManipurI agree with the opposition that there has been an orgy of violence in Manipur. No one can accept such an incident. The incident has become shameful.”
What else did Amit Shah say?
The Union Home Minister said, “Situational violence is..I want to tell the country that the Prime Minister of the country woke me up at 4 am and the next day at 6:30 am and is saying that Modi ji is not taking care. We worked from here continuously for three days. Had 16 video conferences, sent 36 thousand soldiers. The Chief Secretary was changed. DGP has been changed. Security advisories dispatched.”
He said, “The Government of India sent the Chief Secretary and the DGP. Violence happened on the 3rd and everything ended on the 4th. They say why 356 (President’s rule) was not imposed. 356 is imposed when the state is in power during the violence. Government should not help the state government accepted the changes we made. CM has to be changed when that does not help. CM is helping.”
Amit Shah said, “The Prime Minister also thinks about the discussion, but what will he do when the Home Minister is not allowed to speak. You don’t even want to discuss, you just want to make allegations. Our approach is not of ‘hota hai’. There is a BJP government in Manipur for six years, but curfew has not been imposed there.”
Appealing for peace, the home minister said, “I appeal to both the Meitei and Kuki communities to engage in dialogue, violence is not the solution to any problem. I assure you that we will bring peace in the state. But politics should not be done.”
What did you say on the viral video?
On the viral video of women being paraded naked in Manipur, Amit Shah said, “Why did this video come before the start of this Parliament session? If anyone had this video, they should have given it to the DGP and the same day (May 4) ) action would have been taken the day we got the video, we identified all the 9 people and arrested them. I stayed there (Manipur) for 3 days and during this period we took many decisions. Paramilitary forces have been deployed in the area to restore normalcy in the state.
