Anurag Thakur, a union minister, accused Congressman Rahul Gandhi and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray of remaining mute about attempts to “insult” Sanatan Dharma on Monday.
The leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made his comments amid a political controversy when DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin accused Sanatan Dharma of encouraging racial and social discrimination and called for its eradication.
A Raja, the leader of the DMK, has compared Sanatan Dharma to socially stigmatised illnesses like leprosy and HIV.
Rahul Gandhi’s remarks against the India In response to a question from local reporters regarding Rahul Gandhi’s assertion that the BJP does not practise Hinduism and that he has read the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita, Thakur replied, “The opposition should break its silence on insults to Sanatan Dharma.”
Opposition insulting the Sanatan Dharma shows mentality
“The opposition is limited to insulting the Sanatan Dharma. This shows their mentality and efforts are going on one after another to insult the Sanatan Dharma,” the minister claimed.
Thakur claimed that some individuals have a propensity of “spreading fear and confusion and telling lies” in the Bharat versus Thakur argument. He said, “They have done this their entire lives.”
Regarding Uddhav Thackeray, the head of the Shiv Sena (UBT), who said that a “Godhra-like” incident would occur following the dedication of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, Thakur asserted that certain people had forgotten their ideologies out of a desire for power.
Greed of power:
“I don’t know what Balasaheb (late Shiv Sena founder and Uddhav Thackeray’s father) would have thought today and what Uddhav ji is doing today for the greed of power. Rahul ji and Uddhav ji did not say a word when so many things were said about Sanatan Dharma,” Thakur added.
On Sunday, Thackeray asserted that a “Godhra-like” incident might occur during the “return journey” of the huge crowd that is anticipated to assemble in Ayodhya from all over the nation for the dedication of the Ram Temple.
Prior to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in January 2024, the temple is anticipated to be inaugurated.
At the Gujarati station of Godhra on February 27, 2002, ‘karsevaks’ returning from Ayodhya on the Sabarmati Express were attacked and their train coach set ablaze, resulting in multiple fatalities and sparking widespread disturbances throughout the state.
