Arunachal Clash: Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar objected to Rahul Gandhi’s use of the term “pitai (beating)” in reference to battles between Indian and Chinese troops in the Tawang area of Arunachal Pradesh today, in the Parliament. Speaking out against Prime Minister Modi over purported Chinese advances in Arunachal Pradesh, Mr. Gandhi had stated, “Our troops are being beaten up.”

Jaishankar’s response to Rahul Gandhi’s statement
Mr.Jaishankar remarked, “We have no problems if there are political differences, even if there is political criticism. I have heard sometimes that my own understanding needs to be deepened. When I see who is giving the advice, I can only bow and respect, but I think we shouldn’t directly or indirectly criticise our jawans. Our jawans are standing in Yangtse at 13,000 feet, defending our border, they do not deserve to have the word ‘pitai’. The word ‘pitai’ shouldn’t be used for our jawans.”
The BJP launched a fierce attack shortly after Mr. Gandhi’s remarks in Jaipur during his pan-Indian march, the Bharat Jodo Yatra, in which he accused the government of downplaying the threat posed by China, claiming Beijing was preparing for war but Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government was “sleeping”. The BJP took issue with his comment that Chinese soldiers are beating up Indian Army personnel in Arunachal Pradesh. Congress was ordered to kick him out of the BJP immediately, according to party leaders.

Rahul Gandhi’s statement
“China has taken our land. They are beating out soldiers. The threat of China Is clear. And the government is hiding it, ignoring it. China is preparing for an offensive in Ladakh and Arunachal. And the government of India is sleeping,” further criticising S. Jaishankar, Mr. Gandhi had stated that his comments demonstrated a need for him to learn more about China.
Rahul Gandhi should be expelled for his remarks that “belittle” India and undermine the morale of its armed forces, according to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia. If Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge is not “remote-controlled,” and if the opposition party stands with the nation, Rahul Gandhi should be expelled.
