There has been a big news in Assam amid the heat of the Assembly elections. The Election Commission has banned election campaigning for the next 48 hours with immediate effect on Assam minister and BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma. Biswa Sarma is alleged to have threatened to send Bodoland People’s Front president Hagrama Mohilary to jail and implicate him in the NIA probe. Taking action on this, the Election Commission has also sought clarification from the BJP leader.
According to the information, on March 30, Congress filed a complaint in this regard with the Election Commission. After the complaint, the Election Commission issued a notice to Himanta Biswa Sarma. In its complaint, the Congress alleged that in its rally on 29 March, Sarma had threatened to send the president of the Bodoland People’s Front, a Congress ally, to jail from an open platform. He had said that he would get NIA investigated against Hagarma Mohilary and send him to jail.
The Congress had demanded action against Sarma from the commission. Sarma had said that if Mohilari promotes insurgency with rebel leader M Batha, he will be sent to jail through the Central Investigation Agency NIA. The Bodoland People’s Front is an ally of the Congress in Assam. Earlier this party was with BJP.
According to the information, Himanta Biswa Sarma was accused by the Congress in this case. The Congress had said that the BJP leader misused the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and threatened to send Mohilari to jail.
