The bypolls for seven assembly constituencies in six states, including the family stronghold of former chief minister Bhajan Lal in Haryana, will count ballots on Sunday.
The bypoll in Mokama, Bihar, was required by Anant Singh’s disqualification, and two major contenders are Bhavya Bishnoi, the grandson of Bhajan Lal who ran on a BJP ticket, and Neelam Devi of the RJD.
Gopalganj in Bihar, Andheri (East) in Maharashtra, Munugode in Telangana, Gola Gokarannath in Uttar Pradesh, and Dhamnagar in Odisha were the other byelections where results would be released.
The saffron party held three of the seven seats where there was a fierce race between the BJP and the regional parties, the Congress held two, and the Shiv Sena won one.
The BJP and RJD are battling it out in Bihar’s bypoll, and the Congress, INLD, and AAP are the saffron party’s top rivals in Haryana.

In Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha, respectively, the BJP is being challenged by the TRS, SP, and BJD as the main contenders.
By fielding the sons of incumbent MLAs whose deaths forced the byelections, the BJP is hoping to hold onto the Gola Gokarannath seat in Uttar Pradesh and Dhamnagar in the BJD-ruled Odisha.
