Assembly Election 2024: The Election Commission made a major announcement on Wednesday, revealing the dates of upcoming assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana. Detailed information regarding the election schedule and security provisions for both states was issued at a press conference.

Election Dates and Schedule

In the case of Jammu & Kashmir, it will be on three different dates: September 18, September 25, and October 1. Votes will be counted on October 4.Voting in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases on 18 September, 25 September and 1 October and finally on 4 October the votes will be counted and the results of all 90 assembly seats will be placed before the public. Let us tell you that out of the total 90 seats in Jammu and Kashmir, 43 assembly seats are in Jammu division and 47 assembly seats are in Kashmir division.

The elections in Haryana will be contested at 90 seats, out of which 73 seats would be open for general candidates and 17 reserved for Scheduled Castes. Voting in Haryana will happen in a single phase on October 1, while vote counting is scheduled on October 4. According to the information given by the Election Commission, 73 out of 90 assembly seats in Haryana have been declared general and 17 seats have been declared reserved. The Election Commission will release the final voter list in Haryana on 27 August. Let us tell you that a total of 20629 polling booths and 150 model polling booths will be set up in Haryana so that more than 2 crore voters of the state can easily cast their votes.

Innovative Electoral Measures

The EC has taken a number of technological initiatives to make this electoral process very smooth and transparent. cVigil App shall be used for reporting electoral malpractices at rapid speed by the citizens. Also, through the KYC App, voters will able to get information about their candidates. On the other hand, candidates can avail all types of electoral services through the Suvidha Portal.

Security and Voter Confidence

The Election Commission has said that optimism and hope have overridden notions of cynicism and apathy in Jammu & Kashmir. A detailed review of the security scenario in this regard had been undertaken to ensure a secure environment for free and fair elections. The EC said the electorate of Jammu & Kashmir would not experience any fear or threat while exercising their franchise.

The declaration by the Election Commission has emerged as a gigantic democratic exercise toward involvement and participation in the electoral processes for both Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana.
