Assembly Elections 2023 in Five States Expected Between Mid-November and Early December: Sources

Assembly Elections 2023

Assembly Elections 2023: Between October 8 and 10, according to sources in the Election Commission (EC), the dates for the Assembly elections in five states — Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Mizoram — are expected to be declared. Between the second week of November and the first week of December, voting is most likely to take place.

Varied Voting Dates Expected in Five-State Assembly Polls

Like the previous election in 2018, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, and Telangana may vote in a single phase. Similar to what happened in 2018, polling in Chhattisgarh is anticipated to take place in two phases. There is a chance that the voting dates will vary among the five states. Between October 10 and October 15, all five states will conduct a joint vote count.

Mizoram Assembly’s Tenure Concludes in December

On December 17 of this year, the Mizoram legislative assembly’s term will come to an end. In the northeastern state, the BJP’s ally the Mizo National Front (MNF) is in power. On various dates in January of the following year, the periods of the legislative assembly in Telangana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan come to an end. Telangana is governed by the K Chandrasekhar Rao-led Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), whilst the BJP controls Madhya Pradesh. Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh both have Congress-led governments.

EC’s Preparations for Five-State Assembly Elections

The EC assessed the level of poll readiness in Rajasthan, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh before releasing the calendar for Assembly elections in five states. To finalise the plan for the efficient conduct of the election process, the election authority met with its observers on Friday. The goal of the all-day gathering of the EC’s police, general, and spending observers is to streamline strategy so that the model code is efficiently enforced and money and force do not distort the playing field.
