The Kerala Story: The controversial teaser of ‘The Kerala Story’, a film that claims to tell the story of 32,000 missing women, has sparked outrage in the southern state. Congress party has demanded a ban on the film while Kerala DGP has ordered FIR against the crew of the film.
The teaser, released on November 3, claimed that over 32,000 women from Kerala were converted to Islam and most of them were taken to Islamic State-held areas in Syria and Afghanistan.
Spreads misinformation
Leader of the opposition in Kerala Assembly Congress’ VD Satheesan demanded ban on the film as it, he said, spreads misinformation.
The teaser shows actor Adah Sharma narrating how she dreamt of becoming a nurse but was abducted from her home and is now jailed in Afghanistan as an IS terrorist.
Meanwhile, Kerala DGP Anil Kant on Tuesday asked the Thiruvananthapuram commissioner to file an FIR against the film crew for allegedly portraying the state as a safe haven for terrorists.

Communal issues
“I have seen that teaser. It’s a clear case of misinformation. There is nothing like that happening in Kerala. This is to tarnish the image of Kerala in front of other states. This is spreading hatred, so it should be banned. In normal scenarios, we are against banning films, but these types of misinformation will lead to communal issues,” he said.
“There is no record with state police. If there is anything with central intelligence, they have to bring to the public. These are the records, these are the list of women, these are the addresses of the women who joined IS, they were recruited from Kerala,” he added.
