Manipur Violence: In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, nine BJP MPs from the violent Manipur state claimed that the populace had completely lost faith in the N Biren Singh-led administration. The MLAs told PM Modi in a five-point memo that there was no trust or confidence in the government or the administration. “Some special measures for proper administration and function of the government by following the rule of law may kindly be resorted to so that the trust and confidence of the people are restored,” the memorandum read.
BJP MLAs Advocate for Unity and Peace in Manipur
Nine BJP MLAs, including Thokchom Radheshyam Singh, Nishikant Sing Sapam, Khwairakpam Raghumani Singh, S. Brojen Singh, T. Robindro Singh, S. Rajen Singh, S. Kebi Devi, and Y. Radheshyam, signed it. They are all members of the Meitei ethnic group. The lawmakers asked that a meeting be set up between the Kuki and Meitei MLAs. They also requested that central soldiers be deployed uniformly throughout the whole state of Manipur. The document also emphasised that the state’s integrity shouldn’t be jeopardised and that any community’s request for a separate administration shouldn’t be taken into account. After a “Tribal Solidarity March” was arranged in the hill districts on May 3 to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) designation, ethnic violence broke out in Manipur. The violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities has claimed the lives of over 100 people. One such instance of dissidence inside the Manipur BJP is being witnessed in the letter that declares the N Biren Singh-led administration to be ineffective.

Manipur BJP Leaders Express Discontent and Seek Resolution Amidst Ethnic Unrest
Karam Shyam Singh, the chairman of the Tourism Corporation of Manipur, announced his resignation in April, claiming that he had not been given any responsibilities in his position. Not only Karam Shyam Singh, but also Thokchom Radheshyam Singh, S Brojen Singh, and Khwairakpam Raghumani Singh, who were all signatories of the memorandum, had resigned from various administrative and advisory positions in the government, subtly indicating their disagreement with N Biren Singh. The letter was delivered to PM Modi on the day that 28 Meitei BJP legislators who support N Biren Singh met with Rajnath Singh, the minister of defence, and Nirmala Sitharaman, the minister of finance, in Delhi. Under Suspension of Operation (SoO), they had sought harsh action against Kuki insurgent organisations. Most Meitei organisations assert that Kuki extremists are responsible for the recent bloodshed. Eight of the nine signatories joined the other group the following day, on June 20, and met with BJP National General Secretary BL Santhosh. Thokchom Radheshyam Singh, one of the nine signatories, was not a member of the team that met with BL Santosh. Radheshyam Singh left his position as N Biren Singh’s advisor in April. In an interview with India Today NE, Radheshyam Singh recommended that a third party contact the two feuding communities and invite the MLAs from each to participate in talks to resolve the conflict and restore peace to the state. “Two Kuki ministers have not travelled to Imphal since the unrest started. The government will be unable to operate if they are unable to travel to Imphal. Is it possible to find a peaceful resolution without including the Kukis? he questioned.
