By Election Results: Counting of votes for three Lok Sabha seats in the country and 29 assembly seats in 13 states is going on. The fate of many veteran candidates is at stake in the by-election. Of the 29 seats in the assembly, the BJP had 6 and the Congress had nine. The rest of the seats were with the regional party.
Of the five seats in Assam, the BJP is leading in all the three seats where it fielded its candidates. In one, the Congress is leading. The local party is leading in one of the two seats left for BJP’s alliance partner UPPL. Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United is ahead in one seat in Bihar. In Rajasthan, the Congress is leading in two seats – Vallabhnagar and Dhariyawad – where this election is being seen as a performance of the Ashok Gehlot government, which faced a challenge from the Congress faction led by Sachin Pilot last year. Trinamool Congress is ahead in all the four seats of West Bengal. The Dinhata and Shantipur bypolls are being seen as a prestige battle for the BJP, which is currently battling with an exodus of MLAs and senior leaders.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Dnyaneshwar Patil is ahead of his nearest rival and Congress candidate Rajnarayan Singh Purani in the early trends of counting of votes for the Khandwa Lok Sabha constituency of Madhya Pradesh. The Election Commission gave this information. From Raigaon assembly seat, BJP candidate Pratima Bagri is ahead of Congress candidate Kalpana Verma by 936 votes, while the counting of votes from Prithvipur and Jobat is yet to be seen.
In two seats of Karnataka, BJP is leading on one seat and Congress is leading on one. The bypolls to Sindgi and Hangal are being seen as the first election test for Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who replaced BS Yediyurappa.
Counting of votes is also going on for three Lok Sabha seats. Congress candidates are ahead in Himachal Pradesh, BJP in Madhya Pradesh and Shiv Sena candidates are ahead in Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
