Centre stops Delhi Govt’s flagship doorstep ration delivery scheme

The central government has banned the ambitious ‘Ghar Ghar Ration Scheme’ of the Kejriwal government. According to sources associated with the Delhi government, the Center has put the plan on hold because the Kejriwal government did not take its approval for it. This plan was to take ration to every household in Delhi. The Kejriwal government had planned to provide ration to 72 lakh people at their homes.

The ‘Mukhyamantri Ghar Ghar Ration Yojana’ (MMGGRY) was notified by the government on February 20, under the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) of the National Food Security Act, 2013. The scheme included the delivery of packaged wheat. The flour and rice will be delivered to the doorstep of the beneficiaries at their doorstep. It was to be launched in March itself but the central government objected to it.

The Delhi government had not taken approval from the central government for this scheme. On the other hand, the Center had said that the food grains received on subsidy under the National Food Security Act cannot be used for this scheme. Parliament can make any changes in the plan. After this, the Delhi government had announced to start this scheme without any name.
