Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath claimed on Sunday that Chandragupta Maurya, the founder of the Maurya Empire, had defeated Alexander of Macedonia, yet historians did not describe Chandragupta Maurya as “great”. Alexander died in 323 BC, a few years after his Indian campaign. While there is some debate among historians on Chandragupta’s coming to power, there is still controversy about when Chandragupta came to power. But it is generally believed that Chandragupta came to power after the death of Alexander.
“History never called Emperor Ashoka or Chandragupta Maurya great, but it called Sikandar the great, who was defeated by Chandragupta Maurya,” CM Yogi Adityanath said at the ‘Social Representative Conference’ organized by BJP’s OBC Morcha. Historians are silent on such issues. However, once the countrymen learn the truth, India will change.
