Kalyan Banerjee: The chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Jagdeep Dhankhar, expressed his disapproval of the mocking of him during a protest on Parliament grounds by suspended Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee, calling it “ridiculous” and “unacceptable.”
Protest at Makar Dwar
During the protest at Parliament’s Makar Dwar, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, was allegedly seen filming the Trinamool Congress MP with his mobile, while Kalyan Banerjee, along with other suspended MPs, were seen imitating the Vice President.
Chairman’s Disapproval
After the House adjourned and met again at noon, Dhankhar noted what had happened and said, “Office of Chairman, Rajya Sabha and Office of Speaker is very different. Political parties will have their cross currents, they will have exchanges, but imagine a senior leader of your party, video graphing another member of another party. Mimicry of the Chairman, mimicry of Speaker. How ridiculous, how shameful, how unacceptable.”
Adjournment After Unrest
He then adjourned the House until 2:00 PM. A day after 78 opposition members were suspended from Parliament, 49 Lok Sabha MPs were suspended from the House on Tuesday for interfering with the proceedings. Congressmen Manish Tewari and Shashi Tharoor, as well as Farooq Abdullah of the National Conference, are among the MPs suspended on Tuesday.
Demand for Amit Shah’s Statement
Home Minister Amit Shah has been pressed by INDIA bloc MPs for a statement regarding the December 13 security breach in Parliament. This morning, the INDIA bloc parties’ suspended members of parliament demonstrated in front of the Gandhi statue on the grounds of the parliament. Sonia Gandhi, the chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, joined the suspended lawmakers as they chanted anti-Center slogans. At Parliament’s Makar Dwar, the suspended members also staged anti-government demonstrations.
Suspended MPs Continue Protests
The protests took place the day after 78 opposition MPs from both houses were suspended for the duration of the current “Winter Session” for causing a commotion and interfering with both House sessions in order to press their demand that Union Home Minister Amit Shah issue a statement regarding the incident involving the breach of Parliament’s security.
