The Aam Aadmi Party criticised the Congress on Wednesday after its leader declared that the party would run for all seven seats in Delhi in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
“We have been given orders contest on all 7 (Lok Sabha) seats in Delhi”, Congress leader Alka Lamba told news agency PTI.
“The meeting lasted for four hours and was attended by 40 leaders who put forth their opinion. The talks focused on strengthening the Congress in Delhi”, she continued, making reference to the capital meeting called by Mallikarjun Kharge, the head of the Congress.
Replying to Lamba’s claims, Priyanka Kakkar, AAP chief national spokesperson said,”If Congress has already decided to not form an alliance with us, then it is of no use for us to attend the next ‘INDIA’ alliance meeting. Our top leadership will decide whether or not we’ll attend the next meeting”.
Delhi minister Saurabh Bhardwaj said,”Our central leadership will decide this…Our political affairs committee and INDIA parties will sit together and discuss this (poll alliance)”.
Somnath Bharti, AAP leader said,”Everyone should realise that we should keep our ambitions aside and think about the country and Constitution”.
Recently, the Delhi Services Bill from the Centre has the Congress and AAP at odds. As a requirement for attendance to the I.N.D.I.A alliance meeting, the AAP had asked Congress to clarify its position on the ordinance.
Later, the Congress supported AAP in opposition to the services bill in parliament, but it was unable to prevent the measure’s passage and receipt of the president’s approval.
In 2019, Cong-AAP failed to reconnect
The Congress and AAP failed to make a coalition during the 2019 Lok Sabha election, with both parties blaming the other for not forming an alliance for 18 Lok Sabha seats in Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab.
AAP leader Kejriwal’s party charged that the Congress was wasting time in the name of discussion while criticising the AAP’s leadership.
“The sole reason for us to go for an alliance with the Congress was to defeat the Modi-Shah pair in the election and not to fight over which party contests how many seats in these 18 Lok Sabha constituencies. But the Congress backtracked from the last agreed seat-sharing arrangement for Haryana”, Manish Sisodia then Delhi deputy chief minister had said.
