Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has criticized the central government and BJP for delimitation in the state and termed the delimitation in Jammu and Kashmir as a “divisive agenda”.
Earlier, the Union Home Ministry informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that they plan to complete the delimitation exercise in Jammu and Kashmir at the earliest.
“When delimitation cannot happen in the rest of the country by 2026, why are they doing it in J&K? It is part of their divisive agenda. They want to increase the seats in some areas and arrange the seats in such a way that the votes in the majority community are divided into Muslims, Kashmiris, Gujjars… They want to further divide the society.”

She said that even participating in this process will not bring any benefit. “They’re not just listening to those who have been involved in the process.” When asked whether her party – the People’s Democratic Party, which was an ally of the BJP till June 2018 – would contest the elections, she said she would not contest until Article 370 was reinstated but her party would participate in the elections. “We will not give them (BJP) any place,” he said.
The Union Home Ministry on Tuesday said the government has constituted a Delimitation Commission headed by Justice (retd) Ranjana Prakash Desai for “delimitation of Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir”.
