Uddhav Thakeray: On Wednesday, a “close associate” of his party’s leader Sanjay Raut and the personal assistant of Uddhav Thackeray’s son Aaditya Thackeray were searched in relation to the suspected $100 million Covid centre scam that had been brought up by a top BJP official. At least 15 places in Mumbai and the surrounding areas are currently the target of raids by the Enforcement Directorate, including some BMC officials’ homes. The alleged scam involves the BMC giving contracts to businessman Sujit Patkar’s Lifeline Hospital Management Services to manage large Covid clinics.
Senior BJP Leader Alleges Nepotism in Contract Award
In a protest, senior BJP leader Kirit Somaiya said that Patkar and his three partners were given the contracts despite their lack of prior expertise managing such institutes. Sanjay Raut, a member of parliament for the Shiv Sena (UBT), is alleged to be good friends with Patkar. Raids are also being conducted at the Chembur home of Suraj Chavan, Thackeray’s personal assistant. Shiv Sena members arrived at the scene after learning about the operation and started yelling insults at the ED and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Last year, Shinde and 39 other MLAs rebelled against Uddhav Thackeray, the then-chief minister. As a result, the Shiv Sena was split, and the Maha Vikas Aghadi administration was overthrown. “I have learned from media reports that the properties owned by the company of Sanjay Raut’s partner Sujit Patkar and those of Patkar’s partners are being raided in connection with the $100 million Covid centre scam,” Somaiya stated in a video message. An account must be provided, according to Hisab to Dena Hi Hoga. When asked about the raids, Devendra Fadnavis, the deputy chief minister, responded in Marathi, “I am not aware what processes are on. In relation to the Covid centres that the BMC erected, a fraud has come to light.”

Inexperienced Businesses at the Center
Unsettling information indicates that inexperienced businesses are running the centre. The lives of people have been manipulated. When asked directly about Chavan, he responded, “I believe raids must be conducted against people connected to the scam.” Raut had filed a criminal defamation charge on June 12 against Somaiya in a Mumbai court for allegedly tweeting disparaging remarks about him since 2022.
