The date and venue for the swearing-in ceremony—December 5 at Azad Maidan, Mumbai—have been announced. However, the key question of who will assume the Chief Minister's post in Maharashtra remains unresolved. Political tensions are high as discussions continue over the coveted position.
Ajit Pawar Backs BJP for CM Post
Amid the political tussle, NCP chief Ajit Pawar has clarified his stance, expressing support for a BJP-led government. Speaking to the media, Pawar stated, “During the Mahayuti meeting, it was decided that BJP will lead the government with their CM candidate. The other two allies—Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) and NCP—will have deputy CMs. Delays are not unusual; back in 1999, it took over a month to form a government.”
Eknath Shinde's Growing Discontent
Acting CM Eknath Shinde has added to the suspense by canceling all his scheduled meetings on December 2, citing health concerns. After briefly retreating to his hometown, Satara, Shinde returned to Mumbai without meeting any senior leaders. His actions have fueled speculation about dissatisfaction with the BJP’s decisions.
Reports suggest Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction is vying for key portfolios like Home and Finance. Additionally, it is rumored that Shinde may be reluctant to accept a Deputy CM post, further complicating matters.
Devendra Fadnavis and the Road Ahead
While Devendra Fadnavis remains a strong contender for the Chief Minister's position, uncertainty persists as BJP has yet to announce its legislative leader. Speculations are rife that the party may unveil a surprise candidate. With NCP and Shiv Sena having named their leaders, all eyes are now on BJP's next move.
The political scenario in Maharashtra remains dynamic, and clarity is expected only after the official announcement from the key stakeholders.
