An all-party meeting was held at the residence of National Conference President Farooq Abdullah in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. In which concerns were expressed about getting rights to outside voters.
The meeting was called by former Chief Minister and President of People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), Dr. Farooq Abdullah against the inclusion of non-local people in the electoral rolls of Jammu. Dr. Farooq Abdullah presided over the meeting. PDP chief and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti besides leaders of other political parties participated in it.
Talking to the media after the meeting, Abdullah said- “Leaders of all political parties are present today. We do not want outsiders to get voting rights in Jammu and Kashmir. We do not trust the assurances given by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jammu and Kashmir. The Prime Minister had also said that he would reduce ‘Delhi Ki Doori’ and ‘Dil Ki Doori’, but nothing has been done so far.”
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti, People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration spokesperson Yusuf Tarigami, JKNC vice-president Omar Abdullah and others attended the meeting.
Congress also participated in this meeting. Before joining the meeting, Congress said that it is not part of Gupkar, but we are one on this issue and Congress is also standing with them against outside voter.
In the middle of this meeting, protests also started outside Farooq Abdullah’s house. Opposing this meeting, Bajrang Dal workers took to the streets.
