Former J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti Calls for Opposition Consolidation, Survival of Opposition Leaders Hinges on Unity

Mehbooba Mufti, a former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, discussed attending the opposition meeting in Patna yesterday and emphasised the significance of opposition unity for the 2024 Lok Sabha election on Saturday. Parties, according to her, brought up concerns about preserving democracy, the constitution, and secularism. She emphasised that neither the opposition nor its leaders would be around in 2024 if there was no unity within the opposition.

Opposition Unity Crucial for the Survival of Democracy

“I had a great time in Bihar. We were all concerned that democracy, the constitution, and secularism needed to be preserved. According to the leader of the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party, quoted by the news agency ANI, “Neither the opposition nor the leaders of the opposition can survive in 2024 if there is no opposition unity.

Mehbooba Mufti’s Plea for Historical Preservation

“Paid obeisance at Yousuf Shah Chak’s grave in Bihar. As the last muslim ruler of Kashmir, his resting place symbolises the ties between Kashmir & Bihar. Unfortunately the site is in absolute disrepair & ruins.Appeal @NitishKumar ji to take steps to preserve this relic of history,” She tweeted while posting photos of herself at the grave of the 16th-century king at Biswak, which is located in the Nalanda region, as he symbolised the connections between Kashmir and Bihar as the last Muslim ruler of Kashmir. Mufti, who served as Jammu and Kashmir’s final chief minister before Article 370 was repealed and the state was divided into two Union Territories, afterwards travelled to the well-known Buddhist pilgrimage city of Bodh Gaya. In 2020, she and Farooq Abdullah co-founded the People’s Alliance for the Gupkar Declaration.
