Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who rebelled against the Congress and formed the Democratic Azad Party (DAP), has suffered a setback in just two months. 17 leaders who left the Congress with him have returned to the party again. These include former Deputy CM of Jammu and Kashmir Tarachand and former Pradesh Congress Committee chief Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed. Party General Secretary KC Venugopal did the work of re-inducting all of them into the Congress during a function in Delhi on Friday. He described it as a very happy day for the party before the Congress Bharat Jodo Yatra reaches Jammu and Kashmir. Rahul Gandhi is going to reach Jammu and Kashmir after two weeks by taking Bharat Jodo Yatra.
19 leaders had to return to Congress
According to senior party leader and former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh, 19 leaders from Jammu and Kashmir were to rejoin the Congress on Friday, but only 17 leaders could reach Delhi due to bad weather. He said that soon others will also join the party.
When Tarachand was asked on this occasion why he had left the party? He said, we were carried away by emotions. Because of this, he had left the party without thinking. Congress gave ticket to a poor man like me, made him MLA, Deputy CM. Peerzada said, I have been in Congress for 50 years, worked on various posts, been a minister 4 times. I had made a mistake, I got emotional and I could not sleep for almost two months.
Will Azad also return to Congress?
After the return of most of the big leaders who went with Ghulam Nabi Azad, the question is arising whether they will also return?
However, for the time being, Venugopal has put an end to this speculation by saying that no such thing is going on with Azad. Azad was part of the G-23 group of senior leaders within the Congress, which launched a campaign of change opposing the supremacy of the Gandhi family over the party. Most of the leaders leading this group are no longer in the Congress.
