Gujarat elections: Rival parties have become more combative as Gujarat prepares to elect its new government in a few days amidst frantic campaigning. Gopal Italia, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party in Gujarat, claimed that stones were thrown at a jansabha (public assembly) in the state’s election-bound territory on Saturday. Along with pictures, he tweeted that a youngster had been hurt during the stone-throwing. Italia said in Hindi, “Due to the fear of losing the Katargam assembly election, the goons of the BJP pelted stones at my public meeting today, in which a small child got injured.”
He further added, referring to the AAP’s poll symbol, “If they had done some work in 27 years, then today they would not have been compelled to throw stones at the public meeting of the Aam Aadmi Party. To those from the BJP who are hurling stones, the public will reply with a broom.”

Both sides accuse one another of corruption
The AAP’s electoral challenge has been dismissed by the BJP, which has controlled the state for more than 20 years, on the grounds that the party has not performed as promised in Delhi, where it has been in power for almost eight years. In the lead-up to the assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh as well as the civic elections in the national capital, there have been numerous flashpoints between the two parties. Some of the problems have included the Delhi excise policy case and controversy surrounding footage of Satyendar Jain in Tihar Jail. Both sides have accused one another of corruption.
Because of his prior remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his mother, Italia has also been at the centre of a dispute.

AAP claims another attack
The AAP also claimed there had been another attack in the midst of Italia’s new accusations. Dr. Safin posted on Twitter about the AAP “One more attack on AAP today. After stone pelting on @Gopal_Italia’s sabha a local AAP leader of Limbayat assembly constituency Mahendra Goswami attacked tonight. BJP is losing Gujarat. That’s why attacking AAP leaders! (sic).” The BJP has not yet addressed these allegations.
This is not the first time Arvind Kejriwal’s party has accused the BJP of attacking them during a campaign in Gujarat. Kejriwal said that the “goons of BJP” were targeting Manoj Sorathiya, a member of his party, in August.
Gujarat holds assembly elections on December 1 and December 5, with results announced on December 8.
