Gujarat Election: According to preliminary data as of 9 p.m. on Thursday, voting for the first phase of the Gujarat Assembly election was peacefully completed, with an average turnout of 60.35% being recorded across 89 seats in Saurashtra and south Gujarat. These districts recorded a 65% turnout in the 2017 election.
Voting was delayed in a few places, according to the CEO’s office, because electronic voting machines, control units, and voter-verifiable paper audit trails all malfunctioned. The process was restarted when the defective devices were replaced.
