Gujarat Poll: Phase 1 Voting Begins For 89 Seats

Gujarat Poll: Today’s first round of Gujarat assembly polls, in which the BJP is eyeing a seventh straight term, will be decided on 89 seats. The Aam Aadmi Party, which has surpassed the Congress in terms of visibility, is its main rival.

The southern portion of the state and 19 districts in the Kutch and Saurashtra area collectively make up the 89 seats.

The real challenge is arresting the slide in numbers which has controlled the state since 1995. Since 2002, the party’s rating has decreased, falling from 137 to 99 in the 2018 election.

Counting of votes on December 8

The voting is being held across 14,382 polling stations, of which 3,311 are in the urban and 11,071 in rural areas. The counting of votes is scheduled for December 8.

Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, has been in full charge of the activities, setting the party’s goal at 140 of the 182 seats in the state.

The BJP ran an intense campaign, carpet-bombing the state with well-known figures.

Arvind Kejriwal of the AAP is the other leader who has spent a significant portion of the past month in state. The Delhi Chief Minister has set Gujarat as the party’s next objective after the party’s resounding victory in Punjab at the beginning of this year.
