Rahul Gandhi: Minutes after her party submitted a protest accusing the Congress leader of acting in a “indecent manner,” listing Hema Malini as one of the signatories, the BJP MP claimed that she did not see Rahul Gandhi blowing a flying kiss in the Parliament. Even as the BJP launched a fierce attack on Rahul Gandhi, alleging that the “inappropriate gesture” was directed at union minister and BJP MP Smriti Irani in the Lok Sabha, Hema Malini’s statement swiftly made its way into Twitter’s viral-video-of-the-day selection. Hema Malini responded, “There were certain words that were not very correct, but I did not observe Rahul Gandhi blowing the flying kiss that was deemed disrespectful.
BJP Delegation Takes Action
Soon after, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje, along with other female party members, complained to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla about Gandhi’s alleged “indecent” behaviour and “inappropriate” gestures towards Union Minister Smriti Irani in the House. At the Speaker’s chamber, Shobha Karandlaje delivered the letter, signed by 21 female BJP members, calling for harsh punishment against Rahul Gandhi. The delegation that went to see the speaker included Hema Malini.
Flying Kiss to BJP MPs Amidst Parliament Proceedings
Following his first speech in Parliament on Wednesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi gave BJP MPs a flying kiss as he exited the chamber. While Union Minister Smriti Irani was giving her speech inside the Lok Sabha, the kiss, which was purportedly not caught on camera, was blown.
