In Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency, which includes Union Minister Anurag Thakur, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lost all five Assembly seats, but gained all three in Bilaspur, the hometown of the party’s president, JP Nadda.
With a margin of 399 votes, the Congress candidate won in Sujanpur, the seat from which Mr. Thakur’s father, the former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, previously ran for office.
Even though the party and Mr. Dhumal said he had made the decision to retire, he was not handed the ticket this time. Soon after the news, Mr. Thakur was seen in the public sobbing “in honour of the hard work” of his father.

Himachal election results:
The BJP lost in Boranj by a mere 60 votes. An Independent candidate won the Hamirpur assembly seat, and Congress also won in Barsar and Nadaun.
Candidates for the BJP narrowly prevailed in all three Assembly seats in Mr. Nadda’s hometown of Bilaspur.
Anurag Thakur was immediately attacked on social media by BJP supporters who blamed him for the party’s internal strife following the BJP’s defeat in the hill state.
At least 21 of the 68 constituencies had BJP challengers. Only two of them were successful, although others received votes that the BJP may have preferred.
Overall, it was evident that there were three factionalism at play, with Anurag Thakur, JP Nadda, and Chief Minister Jairam Thakur’s side receiving leadership from the other two.
The BJP received 25 votes, giving the Congress a comfortable majority of 40 seats in Himachal Pradesh. AAP failed to gain even one seat.
Even though Himachal Pradesh consistently alternates between the BJP and the Congress every five years, the BJP had been counting on PM Modi’s accomplishments for a seamless transition to a historic second term in office.
