The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) marked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday as “National Unemployment Day” by organizing a protest called “Berozgari Mela” at the party’s headquarters in Delhi. During the demonstration, protesters expressed their dissatisfaction with the current BJP-led government’s handling of unemployment and inflation issues.
Protesters, dressed in black and holding placards, engaged in symbolic actions like selling tea, making pakodas (fritters), and polishing shoes to highlight their discontent. The IYC Delhi In-charge, Kushbu Sharma, explained that unemployed youth organized the protest to send birthday wishes to PM Modi but also to draw attention to their grievances.
Sharma criticized what she referred to as “PM Modi’s fake promises and jumlas” that, in her view, had forced educated individuals to resort to selling tea and pakodas. She also mentioned a previous statement by PM Modi where he suggested that selling pakodas could be considered a form of employment.
“This is a gift for PM. After spending lakhs of rupees on education, still, we are selling pakodas and tea,” she added.
