Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to spoil Prime Minister Narendra Modi politics in Gujarat? This question is big because if Modi loses Gujarat, his moral force to rule the country will be broken. This question is not funny after the Punjab assembly election results.
In Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party has changed the perception about itself by forming the government.
It would not be fair to say that the Aam Aadmi Party does well in marketing the elections, but it is nowhere on the ground. Punjab has also broken the notion that the Aam Aadmi Party only influences urban voters. Most of the seats in both the states of Uttarakhand and Goa were urban, in both the states the Aam Aadmi Party’s didn’t succeed. In Uttarakhand, it got only 3 percent votes and did not get a single seat. On the other hand, in Goa, it got only 2 seats and 6 percent votes. Most of the seats in Punjab are rural, 77 out of 117 seats in Punjab are rural, so the Aam Aadmi Party has also broken the perception that influences the urban voters.
Aam Aadmi Party is fighting Gujarat elections like Punjab. Like Punjab, Gujarat also has more rural seats. Out of 182 seats, 143 are rural. There are only 39 urban seats in Gujarat and the BJP won 35 out of 39 urban seats in a tight contest last time. This clearly means that the BJP’s urban fort is stronger, while it could win only 64 seats out of 143 rural seats.
The BJP was wiped out in some districts of Saurashtra, Gujarat due to the Kisan and Patidar agitations. Particularly in Amreli and Gir Somnath, where she lost all seats to the Congress. But now the situation has changed, Patidar movement leader Hardik Patel has joined BJP.
BJP has started “Namo Kisan Panchayat” campaign in all 16000 villages of Gujarat from September 17, the birthday of Narendra Modi, to increase the seats in rural areas. Instead of putting more emphasis on urban seats, the Aam Aadmi Party is also putting more emphasis on rural seats, where the Congress has a stronger roots.
The Congress had won 77 assembly seats in 2017 giving a tough fight to the BJP, of which 74 were in rural areas. So it simply means that Aam Aadmi Party will do more damage to Congress than BJP. This will directly benefit the BJP, and the BJP will be in a position to win more seats than in 2017.
Broadly speaking, the picture that is being created is that the Aam Aadmi Party is fighting elections not to form the government, but to get the status of the major opposition party. They did the same experiment both in Delhi and Punjab. In both the states, the Aam Aadmi Party has snatched power from the Congress, in both these states it did not get full power for the first time. In Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party had emerged as the largest party for the first time and formed the government with the help of Congress. Whereas in Punjab in 2017, it became the main opposition party by winning 22 assembly seats and overtaking the Akali Dal.
For the last three months, Kejriwal has been going to Gujarat every week. Now Bhagwant Singh Mann, Manish Sisodia and Raghav Chadha have also started their tour of Gujarat. The air is being made in such a way that like Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party will get a thumping majority in Gujarat. Kejriwal is showing every action being taken against him in Delhi by associating it with Gujarat and Modi. In a way, they have made Modi vs Kejriwal in Gujarat.
Also before the announcement of elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going on a tour of Prime Minister Gujarat with another installment of gifts. In fact, assembly elections are to be held in Gujarat at the end of this year. Hence, the challenge for BJP is to retain power.
PM Modi will leave for a three-day visit to Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh today. During this, he will launch development projects worth Rs 14 thousand 500 crore in Gujarat. This includes a new hostel building and treatment facilities at the United Nations Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Center and a new 850-bed facility at the Institute of Kidney Diseases and IKDRC Center in Ahmedabad.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Modi will start the journey to his home state from Modhera in Mehsana. Where he will lay the foundation stone for projects worth over Rs 3,900 crore. The Prime Minister will also declare Modhera as India’s first round the clock solar powered village. After this, he will address the public meeting in Bahucharaji.
