Kamal Nath: Ahead of the national elections, there is a lot of talk that Kamal Nath would defect to the BJP, dealing the Congress another blow. NDTV was told by people close to him that he is “unhappy” with the party.
Delhi Arrival Sparks Speculation
The rumours were fueled by the former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh‘s arrival in Delhi on Saturday. According to sources, he has only heard BJP state leaders like VD Sharma say he is welcome to join their party, but he hasn’t seen Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Home Minister Amit Shah. According to insiders, Nath is currently considering joining the BJP in order to guarantee better development for the people of Chhindwara, which he has nine times represented in the Lok Sabha.
Nakul Nath’s Rumored BJP Entry Mirrors Father’s Potential Move
Nakul Nath, the son of Kamal Nath, who now represents the constituency, is rumoured to be joining the BJP alongside his father. Sources claim that Nakul Nath never featured the name of the party in his social media bio, despite reports that he erased the word “Congress” from it yesterday, which caused a considerable buzz. Kamal Nath’s visit to Delhi coincides with the BJP’s two-day national council, which prominent national leaders are expected to attend.
Kamal Nath Voices Discontent Despite Remaining in Congress
Although he hasn’t quit from Congress, the sources said he has expressed his dissatisfaction to the leadership since he believes the party has changed since he joined it fifty years ago. “He feels that Rahul Gandhi is busy with the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and the party is now being run by the likes of senior leaders Jairam Ramesh, KC Venugopal, and Randeep Surjewala,” the sources said.
Senior Leader Urges Kamal Nath to Remain in the Party
They denied that his dissatisfaction stemmed from not receiving a Rajya Sabha nomination and said that senior leader Digvijaya Singh had asked him to stay in the party. The Congress, emphasising that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi referred to Nath as her “third son” during his 1979 campaign, has refuted claims that he may sever ties with the party.
The Congress would suffer a severe hit as a result of Kamal Nath’s flip in front of the presidential elections. With the most recent high-profile departure, former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan joining the BJP earlier this week, the grand old party is already in disarray.
Kamal Nath’s Departure Threatens Congress’ Fragile Presence
The party will be exposed by Nath’s departure in Madhya Pradesh, where the Congress only secured one seat in the 2019 elections. His erstwhile colleague Jyotiraditya Scindia, who is currently a Union Minister, defected to the BJP following the 2020 Madhya Pradesh megarevolt that toppled the Congress administration.
