Before the assembly elections to be held in Uttar Pradesh next year, BJP has given a big blow to the Congress. Former Union Minister and strong leader Jitin Prasada joined BJP today. Jitin Prasada choosen lotus in the presence of Union Minister Piyush Goyal at the BJP headquarters today. If experts are to be believed, BJP can use Jitin Prasad as a Brahmin face in Uttar Pradesh.
Jitin Prasad had congratulated Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on his birthday on June 5. After this, the round of speculations started. Congratulating Yogi, Jitin Prasad wrote, ” Happy Birthday to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ji. We wish you good health always.”
Jitin Prasad, 48, born in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, is the son of former Union Minister, late Congress leader and former Union Minister Jitendra Prasad. Prasad started his political career in the year 2001 as General Secretary with Youth Congress, a youth organization of Congress. In 2004, he won his first Lok Sabha election from his home district Shahjahanpur.
In his first term, Jitin Prasada was made the Minister of State for Steel in the Congress government. He was one of the youngest ministers in the Manmohan Singh government. In the year 2009, he contested from Dharaura. He promised to convert the meter gauge line to broad gauge. Due to which he got a lot of public support. He won by two lakh votes.
During the UPA government, Jitin Prasad took over the responsibility of many important ministries. After assuming the Ministry of Steel for a year, he was the Minister of Road Transport and Highways from 2009 to 2011. In 2011-12, he was given the responsibility of the Ministry of Petroleum. Jitin was also the Minister of State in the Ministry of Human Resource Development from 2012-14. In the year 2008, while being the Steel Minister, he also set up a steel factory in his Lok Sabha constituency.
