Jyotiraditya Scindia, who belongs to the Gwalior royal family, has been made a minister in the Modi government. In the cabinet expansion on Wednesday, Jyotiraditya Scindia was given the responsibility of the Ministry of Civil Aviation replacing Hardeep Singh Puri. Interestingly, Madhav Rao Scindia, father of Jyotiraditya Scindia, has also handled the responsibility of this ministry.
Reportedly, the BJP top brass believes that a yound leader like Scindia can bring in new energy to make this sector dynamic amid the changing post-Covid world.
“I express my gratitude to all the senior leaders for giving me this opportunity. I will try to keep intact the belief that they have shown in me,” Mr Scindia said on Wednesday.
Scindia, a Rajya Sabha MP from Madhya Pradesh, switched from Congress to the BJP on March 11 last year. The 50-year-old leader was Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power and Union Minister of State for Commerce & Communications in the earlier UPA government.
Scindia has played an important role in bringing back the BJP government under Shivraj Singh Chouhan after 15 months, toppling the Kamal Nath-led Congress government in Madhya Pradesh in March last year.
Although, since then there were specticulation about getting a place in the Council of Ministers of PM Narendra Modi, but this opportunity came after waiting for about one and a half years.
