Karnataka Elections: After the BJP released its initial list of candidates for the election scheduled for next month, the party’s unrest in Karnataka has continued. Laxman Savadi, a senior leader, left the party today after being passed over for the nomination. “I’ve made up my mind. I don’t walk around with a bowl filled with coins. I am an honourable politician. I am not acting as a result of anyone’s persuasion, the outraged leader assured reporters.
Laxman Savadi was rewarded for his contribution
According to sources, he is in discussions with Congress and could change his mind soon. However, DK Shivakumar, the head of the Karnataka Congress, informed reporters that “he is neither in touch with me nor he has spoken with me.” One of the most powerful Lingayat leaders in the state and a BS Yediyurappa supporter known for his organisational prowess is Laxman Savadi. Mahesh Kumathahalli, a candidate for the Congress, defeated him in the 2018 election. Despite a significant incident in 2012 after he was discovered watching porn in the legislature, Laxman Savadi was rewarded for his contribution when the Congress-Janata Dal Secular government’s mass defections made it possible for a BJP coup a year later.

A number of additional defectors have been proposed as candidates
Mahesh Kumathahalli, one of the defectors, is running for office as the BJP’s representative in Athani. At the expense of present MLAs, a number of additional defectors have been proposed as candidates. The BJP is dealing with growing discontent within its ranks over its candidate selection. Jagadish Shettar, a former chief minister who was absent from the initial list, travelled to Delhi to appeal to the leadership. However, according to sources, he might return disheartened because the leadership is determined to stick with its decisions. Mr. Shettar has vowed to run in either direction and hasn’t ruled out running as a third-party candidate.
