Karnataka News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi lambasted the Congress-led Karnataka government for its decision to incorporate the Muslim community into the state’s Other Backward Classes (OBC) list, alleging that the move aims to replicate across the nation.
PM Modi Criticizes Congress-Led Karnataka Government’s Inclusion of Muslims in OBC List
Addressing an election rally in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district, PM Modi denounced the Congress’s strategy of granting reservation based on religion, terming it a threat to future generations. He asserted that such actions snatch a significant portion of reservation from the OBC community and accused the Congress of playing a dangerous game detrimental to the nation’s interests.
PM Modi highlighted that the Constitution explicitly prohibits reservation based on religion, a principle championed by Babasaheb Ambedkar. He criticized the Congress for disregarding these principles and attempting to deceive the public to further its agenda.
Labelling the Congress as the “biggest enemy of the OBCs”
Labelling the Congress as the “biggest enemy of the OBCs,” PM Modi emphasized the imperative for the BJP to secure over 400 seats in the Lok Sabha elections to safeguard the quota granted to the Other Backward Class, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes.
PM Modi’s critique follows the condemnation from the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC), which deemed the Karnataka government’s decision as undermining the principle of social justice.
In 2023, the Congress government in Karnataka included Muslims in the OBC list by categorizing all Muslim castes and communities under Category II-B for reservation in employment and educational institutions. This move has sparked controversy and drawn criticism from various quarters, with PM Modi’s recent remarks adding fuel to the ongoing debate.
