With Vinod Kumar Sonkar, the head of the Ethics Panel Committee, scheduled to deliver the first report on Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra in the cash-for-query case today, all eyes will be on him. Businessman Darshan Hiranandani is alleged to have given Moitra cash and pricey gifts in exchange for Moitra’s questions in parliament.
Mahua Moitra’s Removal Suggested
At a meeting on November 9, the committee approved its report, which suggested Mahua Moitra be removed from the Lok Sabha due to the accusations. The report is scheduled to be tabled in the house today, as per the Lok Sabha agenda.
Parliamentary Ethics Committee Report Labels Moitra’s Actions
The report that the Parliamentary Ethics Committee looked into has been made available to NDTV. The panel has declared Moitra’s actions to be “highly objectionable, unethical, heinous, and criminal,” and has recommended that her membership in the Lok Sabha be terminated and that she should not be permitted to continue serving as an MP.
Denies Wrongdoing, Cites Legality of Sharing Login Credentials
Moitra has refuted the allegations, asserting that there is no law against sharing login credentials. She claimed she was asked “filthy questions” when she had earlier left an ethics panel meeting. In order to challenge the BJP, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, both in the legislative branch and in the electoral sphere, the opposition is also trying to restructure their approaches.
