BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari has beaten West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee. As expected, it was neck to neck race that swayed from one side to the other as the last round of counting, round 17, started with a difference of mere six votes.
Reports said that Suvendu Adhikari had won by 1,622 votes. But soon after, the Trinamool tweeted: “The counting process for Nandigram has not been completed. Please do not speculate.”
The Bengal Chief Minister trailed Suvendu Adhikari in the early rounds of counting, which dimmed her party’s euphoria over its spectacular victory. She scraped past him and managed a 1,200-vote lead in the afternoon.
“Let the Nandigram people give whatever verdict they want, I accept that. I don’t mind. We won more than 221 seats andBJP has lost the election,” news agency ANI quoted Mamata Banerjee as saying.
