Lok Sabha Election 2024: Clashes erupted between supporters of various political parties in West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh during the fourth phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections on Monday. The incidents of violence underscored the tense atmosphere prevailing in these states amidst the electoral process.

In Bengal, where violence has been a recurring issue in previous rounds of voting, a Trinamool Congress worker lost his life in a crude bomb attack. The tragic incident occurred in the Bolpur Lok Sabha constituency just hours before polling was set to commence.
Meanwhile, in Andhra Pradesh, supporters of the YSRCP and TDP engaged in altercations at multiple locations, with allegations of violence exchanged between the two parties. Palnadu, Kadapa, and Annamayya districts were particularly affected by these clashes.

One notable incident took place at a polling booth in Tenali, Andhra Pradesh, where YSRCP MLA Sivakumar was caught on camera slapping a voter. The altercation escalated as the voter retaliated, leading to further skirmishes involving the MLA’s supporters and voters waiting in line.
Despite the disturbances, voter turnout stood at 63.01 percent as of 6 pm. West Bengal recorded the highest turnout with 75.66 percent, while Jammu and Kashmir reported the lowest at 35.75 percent.
It’s important to note that polling is being conducted simultaneously for all 175 Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh and 28 legislative assembly seats in Odisha.
The incidents of violence highlight the challenges faced in maintaining peace and order during the electoral process, emphasizing the need for authorities to ensure the safety of voters and polling personnel in the remaining phases of the elections.
